South Carolina Militia & National Guard History
The South Carolina Militia and National Guard
Research is currently being conducted on a history of the South Carolina Militia and National Guard. This project proposes to cover the history of the South Carolina Militia and National Guard from its beginning in 1670 until the present day -- over three hundred years of history for the Palmetto Soldiers. The plan is that the vast majority of the information will find its way into this web site. Hopefully, this effort will provide informaton and help to other scholars interested in the history and organization of the South Carolina Militia and National Guard. In addition, the decision was made to provide information on the State Troops, State Forces, State Volunteers and State Reserve organizations and units of South Carolina. A compilation of the Militia Laws of South Carolina since 1670 will be a part of this project. As the information is generated, it will be posted on this site. It will be revised and corrected as more information becomes available. Again, it will take some time, but eventually the bulk of the information that has been found will make its way into this site.
